Since summer will be over before we know it, I figured it would be a good time for an update on our life in Korea. It’s hard to believe, but we have less than 3 months left in our teaching contract. Sometimes it feels like we’ve only been here for a couple of months! We have re-signed for another year and we recently found out that in 2.5 months, we will be moving to the city of Yeosu! It’ll be exciting getting to know a new area.
We’re very happy to be living in a city area. There’s been some great benefits to living in a very rural area, but we’re both looking forward to having more to do and having more food, grocery store, and shopping options close by. We also found out our school placements for the next year. I will be teaching at a high school, with the addition of 3 middle school classes each week. Nick will be teaching at a high school, and will have a few additional elementary school classes each week. We’re both a bit nervous for this change, but I am looking forward to being able to communicate a bit more with my students.
We’ve been keeping busy with regular classes and are now wrapping up our summer camps before we get a break. Earlier this week, I finished my extra evening kindergarten classes. I really looked forward to those classes and will miss my students. It’ll be strange having all of my evenings free now, but I think it will be a good thing, and will give me more time to work on other projects. I had to say goodbye to my co-teacher yesterday, which was also very upsetting, and not easy. I’m so thankful to have met and worked with such a wonderful co-worker. Even though it will be sad not to have her around every day and to not to be teaching classes together, I know that we will remain in contact and I’ll likely visit her in a few months.
I just finished my online summer semester and have been reading and writing a lot. I’m excited about a few writing projects, which I’ll be discussing in greater detail in the near future. Other than that, we’re both very much looking forward to our upcoming summer vacation trip. We will finally get to see Japan! We will be spending time in Osaka, Kyoto, and Tokyo. On this trip, we will be visiting a lot of temples, movie sites, and will be trying new foods. We’ve had this trip planned for quite a while, but have been putting together some last minute details the last couple of days.
Well, that’s all for now! You’ll likely be hearing from us soon. 🙂 As always, thank you for reading!
