Having lived in South Korea for the last year and a half, I’ve flown in or out of the Incheon International Airport about 15 times. I love this airport and think it’s one of the best airports that I’ve been in. If you ever find yourself with a scheduled layover or will be flying in or out of Korea, you’ll feel comfortable at the Incheon International Airport. Here are some of the top reasons to love this airport.
Relax and Shower for Free During a Layover
You may dread some long layovers, because you have to decide if you will leave the airport and pay for a hotel or deal with being uncomfortable for several hours. At Incheon International Airport, you don’t have to stress about comfort. Individuals who have a layover can take advantage of a free shower and can relax in a comfortable lounge chair! There’s also a play area for children. Head to the second flood Rest and Relax area to take advantage of this. The best part — it’s completely free.
Enjoy Free Wifi!
I don’t know about you, but I love airports with free wifi! I live several hours from this airport and the buses only run a couple of time a day, so sometimes I find myself hanging out at the airport many hours before my flight leaves. I love that I can use my laptop, cell phone, or kindle without worry. In almost all areas of the airport, you’ll find free wifi! There are even some stations set up with free computers if you don’t have your laptop with you. 🙂
Learn More About Korean Culture
While at the Incheon International Airport, you can learn about Korean culture! On the third floor departure area, you can take part in unique Korean culture experiences. This includes trying on hanbok, traditional Korean attire, and taking part in a craft. You can also learn about the history of Korea. This is a great way to learn a bit about the country, even if you’re only in Korea for a few hours.
See a Movie
Did you know that Incheon International Airport has not one, but two movie theaters?! If you have a few hours till kill, why not see the latest box office hit? I have yet to see a movie at the airport, because I’m often flying out on holiday weekends due to my school schedule, and the movies sell out fast during these times. If you’re flying mid week or any non-holiday time, you’ll likely be just fine! Popcorn, hot dogs, squid, and beer are common Korean movie-theater snacks.
Practice Your Ice Skating Skills Before Your Flight
While it’s made of synthetic ice, Incheon International Airport has an ice skating rink! If you’re looking for a memorable and unique airport experience, why not practice your ice skating skills while waiting for your flight? It costs about $5 to skate — and this includes renting your ice skates. You can find the ice skating rink on the basement level of the airport.
Tour Seoul — for Free!
If you have a layover at Incheon International Airport, you can take advantage of a free transit tour. There are many tours available depending on your layover timing and your interests. Popular tours include the Highlight of Seoul City Tour, the Korean Culture Tour, and the Yongunsa Temple Tour. This is a great way to take full advantage of your layover in Korea!
Treat Yourself at the Spa
This Korea airport has a spa called Spa on Air. Located on the basement level, you can get a massage, enjoy the baths and steam room, and lounge out. This is a great place to relax if you have several hours to kill before a flight but don’t have access to the layover area, since you haven’t checked in yet. If you’re feeling really adventurous, you can have a true Korean jimjilbang (bathhouse) experience, and sleep on a mat on the floor.
As you can see, there’s a lot to love about the Incheon International Airport. If you ever find yourself needing to kill a few hours while in Korea — there’s a lot to do and see at the airport.
