If you’re thinking about exploring Southeast Asia — you should add the Philippines to your list! As they say, it’s more fun in the Philippines! While in the Philippines, I had the chance to spend a few days exploring Boracay. I had a lot of fun! Wondering what to do in Boracay? Take a look below to learn more about some of the fun things to do while in Boracay.
Try Filipino Food
Arguably one of the best parts of travel is trying the local food! If you’ve never had Filipino food, there are quite a few dishes to choose from. This includes chicken adobo, which has a sauce with soy sauce, garlic, vinegar, and other seasonings. Another dish, ginataang manok is chicken stewed in coconut milk. I tried both of these dishes and liked them!
If you’re feeling more daring, betute is frog stuffed with minced pork and then deep-fried. (No I didn’t try this — sorry!!)
Explore the Quieter Beaches
White Beach is the most popular beach in Boracay because there are so many activities, restaurants, and shops. There are also many resorts situated along this beach or just a few blocks away. While it’s a great beach, there are always tons of people around! I recommend visiting one of the quieter beaches for a more relaxing time and more intimate pictures. You may want to check out Puka Shell Beach or Diniwid Beach. I had fun at both of these beaches and felt a lot more relaxed.
Drink So Many Smoothies
Do you love fresh fruit? Coming from Korea where fruit is imported and expensive, I especially love when I visit places where fresh fruits are plentiful. In Boracay, you can enjoy fresh smoothies. The cost for a fresh smoothie at a street vendor or small shop is generally 80-100 php (about $1.50-$2.00 USD). Mango seems to be the cheapest and most popular smoothie flavor — and you can get one for as little as $1.00 USD!
Go Scuba Diving
My first experience with scuba diving was in Boracay. Here, you can do a discover scuba diving program where you learn the basics and techniques needed to go underwater. You then have a chance to scuba dive along with an instructor and assistants. They even take photos with a Gopro! There are so many gorgeous fish. This was an amazing experience and has me wanting to scuba dive all over the world!
Check Out the Nightlife
Boracay is known for its nightlife scene! If you like to meet new people and enjoy dancing, singing, and having a good time, you’ll enjoy the bars and clubs in the area. Enjoy music, dancing, and $1 beers at Exit Bar, which is located right off of White Beach. We spent most of our evenings here.
Visit Spider House for Amazing Sunset Views
If you’re looking for a great view of the sunset, check out Spider House. This restaurant/bar is also a resort and is located off of Diniwid Beach. You can eat, drink and relax as you watch the sunset. You can also jump off the platform area and enjoy a swim! It’s a unique place that I recommend visiting!
Don’t Forget About Happy Hour
Happy hour seems to be almost all the time in Boracay! You can find many restaurants that offer a happy hour from hours such as 9-12 pm or 3-7 pm. Many of these restaurants offer a 2 for 1 cocktail offer, which is a great way to save even more on your trip. Who doesn’t want to enjoy a delicious drink with an umbrella while on the beach in Boracay? Sign me up!
Relax and Unwind with a Massage
Boracay is a great place to get a full body or foot massage. You can can get a full body massage for on average 350 php (around $7 USD) an hour. You will see massage shops all over the place. You can even get a massage while lying on the beach! This is a great way to treat yourself while on vacation.
As you can see, there’s so much to do and see while in Boracay. It’s true — it’s more fun in the Philippines! I hope this post encouraged you to check out all that Boracay has to offer. 🙂
