What Are The Differences Between Gaming and eSports?

Gaming and eSports both involve playing video games. A number of people tend to think of them as being the same. However, there are some significant differences between them. Gaming is a broad term that describes the playing of video games on different platforms such as mobile phones, PCs, and consoles. Electronic Sports or eSports is also gaming but it is organized, competitive video gaming.

The purpose

Gamers can enjoy playing a huge variety of different video games. There are sports games, adventure games, puzzle games, and much more. They enjoy gaming as a hobby and a way to relax and unwind. Some gamers may record videos and offer other gamers tips so they can improve their skills.

eSports are competitive in nature, and there’s pressure to perform. It is just like any other competitive sport. Top athletes in the NFL or NBA are expected to perform or they are dropped from teams. Instead of segmenting players by the sports they play, eSports segments players by the games they play. They play games like Global Offensive, Counter-Strike, and League of Legends.

People enjoy online betting on all sports including eSports. In the U.S., sports betting is legal in many states whereas betting on eSports is only legal in a few states.

The competition level

The main difference between gaming and eSports is the level of competition. Gamers will play video games for fun. It is only as competitive as they make it.

Professional gamers who play eSports spend time honing their skills and compete internationally. They need to perfect their strategies, skills, and teamwork. eSports usually involve teams of players. There’s a lot at stake in major eSports tournaments where prize pots can run to millions of dollars.

Money and sponsorships

Gaming is for entertainment and fun and doesn’t usually bring in much money, if any. Some players may even have a significant number of followers and have great connections with them. They may stand out because of their personalities and ability to create entertaining content rather than their skill level. It’s not difficult to be a gamer but not everyone can be an eSports champion.

eSports players earn a living through sponsorships, prizes for tournaments, and paid streaming. There are millions of dollars invested in sponsorship deals and cash prizes. Brands can find good opportunities in this sector when looking for ways to promote themselves.

Training

Gamers usually become proficient because they will often play games in every spare moment. However, they don’t have pressure on them to perform and can learn at their own pace. One of the fastest-growing sectors of gaming is mobile gaming. Gamers can use better phones and chargers for a superior gaming experience.

eSports players are like professional athletes. They need to train rigorously and regularly. Refining their skills is essential if they hope to stay ahead of their competitors. Teams will have coaches and nutritionists to make sure players are in peak condition.

Broadcasting and streaming

Many viewers from all over the world will watch and cheer on eSports players. Events are broadcast and streamed worldwide. This doesn’t apply to casual gamers. They may stream play for a small audience but it’s not like the type of viewership that eSports events draw.

The eSports market size is growing all the time, and events can draw millions of viewers. Currently, some of the large events that draw huge crowds are The International (Dota 2), the Honor of Kings World Championship, and the Fortnite World Cup.
