If you’re planning an adventure to Boracay, you’re in for a lot of fun! Having spent a few days on this island in the Philippines, I was able to have a relaxing and enjoyable time! You may be looking for some tips to make your experience even better and to ease any stress. Take a look below for some helpful tips on how to better enjoy Boracay.
Do Something Adventurous
While in Boracay, I highly recommend doing something adventurous! There are many fun activities to do — including snorkeling, scuba diving, island hopping, kite boarding, and para sailing. If you’ve ever wanted to take part in a new activity — now is the time! For certain activities, I recommend booking together if you’re traveling as a group. When I went scuba diving with 3 other people, we paid 1,600 php each — when initially we were quoted for 3,000 php each!
Try to Visit During Off-Peak Season
Having visited Boracy during one of the busiest travel seasons, I did have a lot of fun — but there were a lot of people! If you want to have a less crowded experience and want to save more on airfare and other travel expenses, it can be worthwhile to visit during off-peak season. Traveling outside of November-March is a great way to save more and enjoy with less people around.
Visit the Quiet Beaches
You’ll likely spend a good bit of time on White Beach, as it’s the main beach and it’s the largest in Boracay. There are many great restaurants, shops, and bars here, but it’s harder to relax. If you’re looking for some quiet time, head to one of the quieter beaches. I recommend both Puka Beach and Diniwid Beach if you want to relax in the sand in a less busy place. If you visit Diniwid Beach, be sure to check out the amazing Spider House for gorgeous sunset views.
Fly Into Caticlan
If at all possible, I would fly into Caticlan airport — even if it means getting a 2nd flight. It takes 2-3 hours by bus, ferry, and car to get to Boracay from Kalibo airport. I found that heading home through this airport was a very disorganized process. If I return to Boracay (which I hope I will!) I will fly into Caticlan to save a lot of time and trouble. 🙂 You’ll thank me later!
Don’t Forget About Terminal Fees
I did not read up enough before my trip to Boracay! I got all the way through security and was checked in on my way to catch my flight back to Korea when I was told I needed to pay 700 php. I only had about 350 php in my wallet and of course they didn’t take credit card payments! I had to then go all the way back through and head outside to the nearest ATM. I was so nervous that my American debt card wasn’t going to work — but thank goodness it did. Save yourself the trouble and make sure that you have the appropriate fees with you before going to the airport. As of February 1, 2015 it’s 700 php if you’re leaving to catch an international flight and 200 php if you’re flying domestic.
A trip to Boracay can be a lot of fun. The above tips can help you better enjoy Boracay and all that the island has to offer!
